Fulton County Public Works Seeks Public Comment Regarding Transportation Projects

Atlanta, GA--  (submitted by Fulton Communication)  Fulton County wants your input to develop recommendations about the county’s future transportation needs through the year 2040.  The Transportation Investment Act requires each of the state’s 12 regions to conduct regional roundtable consisting of the Commission Chair from each county along with one mayor from each of the counties.

Your participation is extremely important in the planning process and to the development of the project list.

Round Two Community Development Plan Meetings Get Underway in March

Would you like to see more retail districts, parks or pedestrian-friendly options in your community?  Would you like to give your input on how much industrial land is set aside where you live or work?  The City of Atlanta is inviting non-profits, civic and community groups, neighborhood associations, citizens and businesses to attend the March 2011 community meetings for the City of Atlanta Community Development Plan (CDP) that begins March 1. 

Nearly 200 attendees participated in the first round of 2011 CDP community meetings and had an opportunity to give input on the future plans for their Atlanta neighborhoods.  The Department of Planning and Community Development’s Office of Planning has announced it is hosting the second round of CDP community meetings. All meetings are from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M., with the exception of the March 10th meeting, which is from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Atlanta Fire Dept. Receives $9.8 Million Federal Grant

Atlanta, GA--  Mayor Kasim Reed announced that the Atlanta Fire Department received a grant for $9.8M from the Dept. of homeland Security and FEMA.  The funds are part of S.A.F.E.R., which is an acronym which stands for Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response.  The award provides for:

  • an increase in staffing and enhanced efficiencies on emergency incidents by providing four firefighters to staff each fire apparatus;
  • enhanced overall safety of citizens and firefighters; and,
  • reduced multiple fire station responses to emergency scenes, which include additional staffing and equipment for  2nd and 3rd Alarms.

The City of Atlanta Office of Planning is working with all citizens, businesses and community groups in the development of the 2011 Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP).  You're invited to attend any of the first round of meetings of the 2011 CDP to share your vision for Atlanta and to discuss issues and opportunities, as we work to develop a blueprint for city growth and development. Community meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. and meeting dates are as follows:

  • Feb. 3, 2011 - Adamsville Recreation Center, 365 Cleveland Ave., SE
  • Feb. 7, 2011 - Hillside Facility, 1301 Monroe Drive, NE

Fulton County School Board to Hold meetings at the State Capitol February 1st

Atlanta, GA--  On February 1st, the Fulton County Board of Education will meet at the State Capitol for a discussion of board ethics and conflicts of interests within some of their policies.  Other agenda items include an update on the systems 2010-11 goals and the status on the Charter School System exploration processs which has just started.

The Board will break its meeting for a lunch with State Legislators and to discuss their current superintendent search.

NOTE: All meetings of the school board are open to the public unless designated as executive session where, by law, the board must convene in private to discuss land, legal or personnel items. Any vote resulting from executive session discussion, however, will occur in an open public setting.

Fulton County Government to Resume Normal Operations- Delayed Opening of 10:00 a.m.

Atlanta, GA-- (Fulton County Govmt.)

Fulton County Government will resume normal operations today.  Due to inclement weather, all facilities will have a delayed opening of 10:00 a.m. While we expect to resume normal operations with a delayed opening, we ask that employees take every caution for their safe travel.
