Local SCAD student wins Georgia Marathon poster design competition; Race is Sunday | News
ATLANTA -- Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) unveiled the winning poster for the upcoming Publix Georgia Marathon which will make its way through various downtown neighborhoods on Sunday, March 18th. Denise Francis, M.F.A. graphic design student at SCAD was announced the winner. She was judged against 64 others and will take home a $1,500 scholarship.
“My idea was to use hand made elements, so I hand painted everything,” Francis said about her winning poster. “The small dots represent all the people that come together to run in the events and show that everybody involved is a winner.”
The Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon will take place 7 a.m., March 18.
The race course will travel through metro Atlanta’s most interesting and historic areas, including the Sweet Auburn District, Inman Park, Decatur, Druid Hills, Virginia-Highland and Midtown areas. Along the way, runners will pass landmarks, including the King Historic Site, Carter Center, four college campuses and Piedmont Park.
Race weekend will also include the 5K and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, March 17 at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta’s Luckie Marietta District. Participants can sign up online at georgiamarathon.com.
