'Share a Moment of Love this Holiday' with a senior

ATLANTA -- Georgia's nursing home leaders are inviting the public to stop by a local senior community during the holidays this year and spend time visiting with residents living in one of the state's many skilled nursing care centers and assisted living communities.

The Georgia Health Care Association's annual “Share a Moment of Love this Holiday” campaign, which helps people learn how the gift of time can be a wonderful present, is being celebrated until Sunday, Jan. 3.

“We’re all so busy during the holiday season that sometimes it is easy to forget just how much it means to spend a moment with a special person,” said Jon Howell, president & CEO of the Georgia Health Care Association. “Chance are that we all know someone who does not need another 'thing', but the gift that would mean the most to them is a visit, a moment of love.”

“Giving the gift of time, along with a hug and smile, can mean the world to so many people,” Howell added.

ATLANTA -- We all know that humor -- and song lyrics -- help people learn.

The Atlanta Fire Department hopes for a lot of laughs in addition to fire safety preparation with the video its firefighters made for Fire Safety Prevention Month.

The firefighters changed the words to the Doors' "Light My Fire" -- with hilarious results. A spokeswoman for the fire department put it best: "We are well aware that it's a good thing these folks have real jobs."

Fulton County Cooperative Extension seeking 4-H mentors

Fulton County Cooperative Extension seeking 4-H mentors

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County Cooperative Extension is seeking adults interested in becoming a mentor to make a difference in the life of a child enrolled in 4-H. The mission of Georgia 4-H is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society.

“4-H has a long, established history of making a positive impact in the lives of young people,” said Menia Chester, Director of Fulton County Cooperative Extension. “A lot is expected of our mentors because we believe the mentors receive a lot from helping young people chart their own course, explore important issues and define their place in the world.”
