DECATUR, Ga. -- Acclaimed novelist T.C. Boyle will read from his latest book this month at the Decatur Library.

Boyle has penned 24 novels and won several prizes, including the PEN/Faulkner Award and France's Prix Médicis Étranger. He is a Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Southern California.

Boyle's latest novel, The Harder They Come, is inspired by true events and explores the violence within a family.

He will visit the Decatur Library on Tuesday, Apr. 21 at 7:15 p.m. The reading is free and open to the public, and will also feature a book signing.

A Cappella Books will provide copies of The Harder They Come for purchase. The Inman Park bookstore, which will sponsor Boyle's visit, provided this synopsis of the novel:

Set in contemporary Northern California, 'The Harder They Come' explores the volatile connections between three damaged people. Seventy-year-old Sten Stenson is a reluctant hero, the people's savior only through enacting his own violent tendencies: he's an ex-Marine, and on a cruise to Central America, he kills an armed robber without a thought.

Stenson returns home only to find that his delusional son, Adam, has become involved with Sara, a hardened member of a right-wing anarchist group. As Adam's mental state fractures, he becomes increasingly schizophrenic -- on the run after two shooting incidents, he takes to the woods, spurring the biggest manhunt in California history.

The Decatur Library is located at 215 Sycamore Street.
