Town Hall Meeting with State Superintendent Candidates John Barge, Joe Martin, and Kira Willis

Atlanta, GA--  Teach for America alumnus and former Georgia Department of Education Associate State Superintendent, Andrew Broy is moderating a Town Hall style meeting with all of the candidates for State Superintendant.

John Barge, Joe Martin, and Kira Willis will all be on hand to discuss issues including Race to the Top and school funding, teacher quality, and teacher evaluation.

The forum will be held at Samuel M. Inman Middle School, October 12th, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.   

Students and Artists Receive 1/2 off ACAC Memberships during October

Atlanta, GA--  Atlanta-based foundation Possible Futures is pleased to announce a challenge grant to help drive student and artist participation at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (ACAC). Through October 31, 2010, Possible Futures will cover half the cost of annual ACAC memberships purchased by artists and students.

“The goal of this challenge grant is to give students and artists greater access to ACAC and to encourage their participation in the many programs we offer that are specifically geared toward them,” said ACAC Director of Institutional Advancement Saskia Benjamin. “ACAC intends to leverage this ‘Contemporary Challenge’ to obtain a minimum of 100 new student or artist memberships during October,” she said.

Half-price ACAC student and artist annual memberships may be purchased for $12.50 through Oct.

APS Lunches to go Local and Grass-Fed

ATLANTA, GA -- White Oak Pastures Owner and Georgia Organics President Will Harris is proud to announce that on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, he will be providing 158 cases of his grass-fed beef to feed students at all 90 Atlanta Public Schools.   On this day, all Atlanta Public Schools (APS) will be serving whole wheat penne pasta with meat sauce featuring Harris’ grass-fed beef that is grown and raised on White Oak Pastures farm in Bluffton, Georgia.  This is an initiative on behalf of School Food Focus to raise awareness about how easy it would be for large school districts to source grass-fed and locally grown meats for more healthful meals.

Fulton County Announces Early and Advance Voting Locations

FULTON COUNTY, GA -- Fulton County voters can cast their ballots for the November 2, 2010 General Election at several new sites until October 29th. Voters in Georgia do not have to provide a reason to vote prior to Election Day either by mail or in person.

 The three additional voting locations are available beginning Monday, October 18, 2010 through Friday, October 29, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.:

Georgia Marathon Made Major Announcement Today at Centennial Park---Publix is New Major Sponsor

Atlanta, GA--  US Road Sports & Entertainment Group, owners and operators of the Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon, will stepped up to the podium at Centennial Olympic Park and made a major announcement about the races.  Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall and Falcons players Brent Grimes and Brian Williams were guest speakers and attendees at the downtown event, with Fred Kalil, Sports Director for WXIA-TV 11alive news, emceeing the ceremony.
